The winter recruitment period is typically a time of significant rumour and potential big-money transfers. A number of notable footballers are being connected to transfers away from their current teams. We examine some of the major names who could be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' failure to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the forward available, it appears a major move is imminent. The 25-year-old possesses a contract with a substantial release clause active for a two-week period in early January. Latest reports indicate the Premier League champions have emerged as his signature. Former interested parties like Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have turned their attention to alternative options, potentially opening the door for clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late move.

Marc Guéhi

The English centre-back has continued to impress for Palace this season a summer move to Anfield falling through. As his deal due to run out in the close season, January is the club's final chance to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. Numerous top sides, including City and several European giants including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. Yet, a January exit is considered difficult, especially given the coach's dependence on the player.

Brennan Johnson

This Wales forward has had starting opportunities hard to come by at Tottenham this campaign. Although being the club's top scorer last season, he has started just a small number of Premier League games. Reports suggest the London club would be willing to consider a transfer for the correct valuation, believed to be in the region of £40 million. Bournemouth are currently at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an interest.

Rúben Neves

The Portugal playmaker could be poised for a return to the Premier League following a spell in Saudi Arabia. Still just 28, while his agreement expiring in the summer of 2026, he is a potential opportunity. Clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with the player. Furthermore, there are suggestions from Spanish media that he is willing to take a reduced salary for a move to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The veteran Germany goalkeeper finds himself as the third option at Barça following the coach Flick. Having lost his place and had surgery, a January exit looks highly probable. Villa were once linked as a potential destination, but that option now appears off. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be expressing curiosity in the keeper.

I. Toney

The proven English centre-forward has kept scoring regularly in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League could enhance his fading hopes of being in the national World Cup. However, arranging a deal poses major challenges. Al-Ahli do not wish to sell him, and his reported enormous salary render any move complicated. Because of FIFA regulations about representing multiple teams in a campaign, a move back to his parent club before next season appears to be the only viable outcome.

Kenan Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkish attacker has been in fine form for the Italian giants this season. As his existing deal running down, a host of English sides – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the situation. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a new long-term contract but are in a battle to retain one of the continent's most promising prospects.

K. Smit

This highly-touted Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. Following impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, he has broken into the AZ first team. The 19-year-old is widely expected to make a big-money move in January. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but are facing strong competition from the Spanish champions for a deal valued at around twenty-two million pounds.
