The most recent Far Cry instalment that players explored was Far Cry 6, that starred Giancarlo Esposito as the bad guy, Antón, and was released on October 6, 2021. As a series, it has a reputation for celebrating chaos and madness with the same glee, all while weaving engaging, socially charged stories. Little surprise that FX's decision for a Far Cry anthology series brought on board two visionaries whose creations have embodied all of those things.
What to Expect
Inspired by Ubisoft's successful video game series, the short-run anthology series will be available on Hulu and is being made by FX Productions. The show will also follow the video games' structure by introducing a new backdrop and cast of characters in subsequent series.
Executive Team
Rob Mac, creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the visionary behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will act as executive producers on the series via their production banners, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be accompanied by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
The network enjoyed excellent collaborations with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a collective six series and 32 seasons of television, and we couldn’t be more excited that they are working together for Far Cry,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a news release. “I have no doubt that they will deliver this story in a way that is original, gripping, and extremely entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our partners at Ubisoft for entrusting us with this beloved property.”
Cast and Future Plans
Mac will also star in the show, but at the time of writing, we do not know what character that may be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was not long ago approved for more episodes, with FX and Disney finalizing a new comprehensive agreement with the showrunner.
“Getting to work with Noah Hawley is a goal achieved,” stated Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been incredibly supportive, trusting us with one of the most iconic video-game realms ever created. And through it all, my FX team constantly supports me with their constant confidence and support.”
“What appeals to me about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology-style series. Every instalment is a interpretation of a theme, the same way each season of Fargo is a variation on a story,” noted Hawley. “To produce a large-scale action show that can change from year to year, while always delving into the nature of people through this multifaceted and turbulent lens, is a ultimate goal. I’m excited to collaborate with Rob and present our common unconventional, visionary style to the television.”
A schedule for when we can look forward to the new Far Cry show has not been announced. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus globally.
