'People are afraid' - why 'powerhouse' Arsenal have become the squad everyone fears.

There's no doubt why Arsenal have become countless pundits' preferred choice to win the Premier League during this term.

Consider their outcomes against Newcastle and Crystal Palace versus those same matches during the prior term.

The Gunners have beaten all of them this time around, but lost 10 points across those games as they fell away in the title race in the prior campaign.

Defensive Strength

Arsenal's backline resilience is a key reason why they are seeming ready to finally fulfil their title goal.

They stand first for shutouts (6), shots let in (3), shots faced (72), shots on target faced (19) and anticipated concessions (5.3).

The central defensive pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba is possibly the strongest in the league, with Arsenal maintaining a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Dead-Ball Excellence

Their effectiveness from free kicks is highly documented, but rival sides still don't know how to neutralize the Gunners from these opportunities.

They have registered 11 times from set-pieces in the league, two more than any other side, with 69% of their goals resulting from these situations.

"Arsenal can perform multiple roles now. The whole team has a intimidation presence. People are just fearful of them and it is excellent to see."

Championship Pedigree

What is especially impressive about Arsenal's commencement to the campaign is they have also faced Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United away from home and Manchester City at home - and are still leading by four at the top.

While they keep winning, their historic competitors face difficulties. This marks the first time at this juncture of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The pressure was on boss Mikel Arteta at the outset, having invested around £250m on eight summer additions in pursuit of that coveted first title since 2004.

But the spending has so far paid off in impressive fashion, with his side second top scorers in the league and possessing the tightest defense, despite numerous injuries.

  • Shutouts in each of their last three Premier League games
  • 385 minutes without conceding a goal
  • Only a handful of concessions in 12 games across all competitions

Former players and analysts have characterized Arteta's men as a "powerhouse, looking difficult to stop" with the whole club now operating with conviction and purpose.
