Ten individuals found guilty of cyber-bullying targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for carrying out the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced charges of disseminating fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to making malicious remarks about the couple's 24-year age gap.
The court handed down suspended jail terms of up to eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A persistent conspiracy theory alleging that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has been in circulation since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons initiating a defamation lawsuit in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the first lady's biological sex.
Their complaint alleges that Owens brushed aside any factual proof that refuted her assertions choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she was a teacher at his high school.
The pair tied the knot in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was 54.
