The Italian player secured one of the longest tie-break in team tennis history to defeat Belgium's Zizou Bergs on Friday
The young Italian star and Matteo Berrettini led Italy to team tennis victory as the home team overcame the Spanish team to capture a record-breaking third consecutive title in front of an ecstatic home crowd
48 hours following he narrowly won a marathon 32-point tie-break, the Italian talent once again starred as he battled back from behind in sets to overcome Jaume Munar in a grueling match
The young player's gritty 1-6 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 win secured a 2-0 win for his country in Bologna after his teammate had prevailed in straight sets against Pablo Carreno Busta
It is a fourth team championship title in total for the Italian team, who are the initial country to win three consecutive titles since defending champions no longer received direct entry to the final over five decades back
Home Crowd Inspires Italian Victory
Supported enthusiastically by the overwhelming number of a sell-out 10,000-strong crowd, the Italian star conquered a slow start to trigger scenes of celebration among the team players, staff and fans
The champion was surrounded by his teammates on the playing surface but took a brief time to praise his opponent on his performance before returning to the festivities
Key Players Deliver in Missing Stars
Both Italy and Spain made the final despite missing key players, with the non-participation of top-ranked players denying spectators a seventh meeting of 2025 between the top-ranked men's players
But, with national number two Lorenzo Musetti also absent, Cobolli and Berrettini seized their opportunities in the limelight with three wins from three singles matches apiece during the tournament
Dramatic Comeback Seals Victory
The audience shouted Cobolli's name as he kept his calm to serve out his comeback victory to zero, having achieved the breakthrough in the penultimate game of a tense final set
That was no mean feat, given he had admitted he had realized a "dream" in guiding his nation to the showpiece on domestic ground
In contrast to the scenes of Friday night, when Cobolli removed his shirt in celebration on "among the greatest" moments of his life, the ranked player faced the consequence for a poor beginning as he conceded a dominant opening set
But the determined player launched a essential, swift response after going a break down at the beginning of the following set
The Italian's luck seemed to change after a nine-minute pause in the match when a spectator of the audience became ill
When the match continued, and with Munar down break point, the player floated over a volley that caught a fortunate net tape and brought the set to deuce
Although annoyingly denied multiple opportunities on his opponent's serve, the champion wrested command of a decisive tie-break to force the decider - where he yet again delivered
Berrettini Continues Impressive Run
Berrettini had previously taken his team competition individual winning streak to eleven consecutive wins with an superb display against Carreno Busta
The Grand Slam finalist used his decisive opportunity for a 5-3 lead before confidently closing the opener to love
Having won the majority of points to take the opening set, the player appeared ready to strengthen his grip on the match upon creating opportunities in the opening game of the second
His opponent succeeded to survive both before producing a sequence of solid serving performances - but Berrettini took his following chance and closed to zero to complete his triumph
