Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- But, their status as important members in the influential clan could assist the party reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Questers and Strategists parties.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
